I am having trouble collecting enough blood. What should I do?

Tips and tricks for collecting the required amount of blood for your tests.

Updated over 2 years ago

Please endeavor to fill the tube to the line marked "0.8ml" if possible, as this will ensure our laboratory has enough blood to process your tests. The following tips may assist you in gathering your sample.

If you've filled the tube about halfway, we recommend sending it back to the laboratory for analysis. If there isn't enough blood for an accurate test result, we'll let you know!

Consider these tips and tricks which usually make collecting your blood sample easier:

  1. Drink a glass of water. Proper hydration makes sample collection easier.

  2. Take a shower before collecting your sample or warm your hands under running water for several minutes, as heat increases blood circulation.

  3. Engage in light physical activity (walking, stretching, etc.) to stimulate blood flow.

  4. Keep your arm below your heart level to let gravity help with the process.

  5. Long nails can hinder sample collection.

  6. Carefully read the blood collection instructions, included in your kit.

Additionally, hardened skin and calluses may complicate sample collection, so please choose a finger which is as free from them as possible.
